After experimenting with my tall elevator tower sketches (previous post), I went back a second day to Upper Landing Park to do a sketch for the Urban Sketchers Chicago virtual meet. I chose to incorporate three elements into one page, and worked on keeping them looser and interesting. I did the elevator/red apartment sketch first, and then looked a different direction and did the barges along the river near the elevator. Finally, I moved my chair under another tree there and looked the opposite direction toward downtown to catch a view of the St. Paul’s cathedral. It’s a fun selection of views to tell the story of this park!
I also noticed a bright yellow food truck parked near by. After sketching the cathedral, I got out a smaller sketchbook and worked on the truck. Keeping things loose and interesting made this sketch a lot of fun too!
