Heather has drawn and painted since childhood, with some of her fondest memories being her grandparents’ farm. From an early age she learned to appreciate nature and sought to create pictures of birds and animals in various media. Heather enjoyed occasional art classes as a student and adult and began pursuing her art more seriously in 2004 when she created a series of four coloring books for the Youth and Family Institute in Minneapolis.

In 2010 her growth as an artist took off when she began studying with a St. Paul artist and mentor. As Heather refined skills in charcoal, watercolor, pastels, and oils, she discovered a passion for the pastel medium.  Heather has taken numerous workshops and classes in painting, pastels, and sketching. Her artwork has included soft pastels, acrylics, and oils. Several years ago she began painting “en plein air” (in the open air, on location). She has exhibited her artwork in exhibitions and shows in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota, as well as out-of-state.

Heather has enjoyed teaching many classes in pastel, drawing, painting, and urban sketching, and been part of many arts organizations/galleries over the years, including Artists of Woodbury, Lake Country Pastel Society, Outdoor Painters of Minnesota, the Stillwater Art Guild Gallery, and The Preserve Gallery.

Heather has been doing urban sketching nine years and is an active member of Urban Sketchers, an international organization that promotes urban sketching far and wide, and also the Urban Sketchers Twin Cities Chapter.
