The second half of my zigzag sketchbook began with our trip to Lauterbrunnen, a beautiful resort area with an enormous waterfall cascading off a mountain top. As we walked through the town looking at shops, restaurants, and the bright blue sky, we could hear the roaring falls in the distance. There was a hiking path up to the falls, which I only got part way up. A young man ahead of us had fainted on the pathway, so the single line of people was at a stand-still inside the cliff. Huffing and puffing from exertion myself, I re-traced my steps down and decided to sketch instead.

Our travels took us to the Interlaken area, where my kids went paragliding, Spietz, where we saw a castle on a cliff over blue waters, and a spaghetti and fondue dinner. You can see more of these sketches when you click on the video below…
Another favorite place we went was Zermatt, in the southern area of Switzerland. This is home to a fancy resort area, accessible only by train into town. High-end shops, restaurants, and hotels grabbed your attention, but nothing compared to the view of the famous, snow-capped Matterhorn. We were very lucky with clear blue sky that day!

Here is the finished sketch…

After time in Luzern, we made our way back north to Zurich. Zurich has a beautiful city area and old town with rivers, bridges, and parks. We walked around and saw the sites in the old town area and took a boat cruise on Lake Zurich. One of the stops was at the Lindt Chocolate factory. The museum tour was sold out, so we spent time looking at the giant chocolate fountain in the lobby.

And of course we had to go to the gift shop! I watched chocolatiers in the shop, surrounded by slabs of fresh chocolate and a wide array of ingredients, and I just had to sketch them!

We shared a huge piece of chocolate cake in the cafe so that we could get our chocolate fix!

There were so many wonderful things I was able to sketch in Switzerland, and so much that will remain just in my memories. Thank you for looking at my sketches and stories, and if you ever get the chance to visit there, I’d highly recommend it! We loved the scenery, the food, the architecture and history. People were friendly and it was very clean, roads were well-kept up. We had an absolute blast!
Such a wonderful experience- thanks so much for sharing!!!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
