Fall Sketching

I’ve been accumulating sketches over the weeks so here are a few selections!

I enjoyed sketching at the Milwaukee Ave. Historic district in Minneapolis in September with Urban Sketchers Twin Cities. This beautiful neighborhood with older houses has a park-like pedestrian area between blocks, which were in fall bloom and very colorful. I sketched a few houses, enjoying their details and textures:

I liked the roof peaks of some houses, which I did in ink and gray Tombow markers.

It wouldn’t be fall without dead leaves, so I collected a few off a trail near my house. I love the veins and details of the curled leaves, and the rich colors. I used a brown Micron pen instead of my usual black ink.

We’ve had some very warm days and cooler days in Minnesota. On a cooler day, I sketched with a friend at Dogwood Coffee in St. Paul, and enjoyed a cup of rich hot cocoa.

Urban Sketcher friends and I did a Drink and Draw at the Market at Malcolm Yards, a beautiful food hall in Minneapolis. We sat out on the patio and sketched people, food, the building, and other areas. I like sketching food, so I quickly drew my dinner.

I did a 2-page spread, wanted to show a bit more, so I sketched some people hanging out and part of the building. It was a beautiful evening, with music, lights, and bonfires on the patio.

Here is a fun people-sketch I did in Chicago over Labor Day weekend. The Luxbar in River North had yummy food and plenty of atmosphere. I sketched while waiting for food and added fun colors later. It was a happenin’ place!

More sketches to come in another post! But it’s been a fun time of experimenting with ink and going new places that pique my interest. Hope you’ve found some fun things to sketch this fall too!

  1. Thanks
For sharing your wonderful sketches. They just seem so lively from beautiful parts of town. I makes me want to get out and sketch more myself.
